Functional Nutrition Consults for Women 40+
An hour on YOUR history, not a 5-minute form. Testing only where it changes the plan. A written plan you can actually follow, and a follow-up to adjust it.
Why do my labs come back ‘normal’ when I don’t feel normal?
Because a standard appointment isn't built to find it.
A 67-country review in BMJ Open found the average GP consultation in Germany lasted 7.6 minutes. That is enough to rule out the serious and prescribe, not to connect sleep, stress, digestion, cycle changes and energy into one picture.
The cost of that gap is real. In a Mayo Clinic survey of more than 4,000 working women aged 45–60, 13.4% reported a negative work outcome from menopause symptoms and 11% had missed work because of them. Women with the most severe symptoms were about 16 times more likely to report one.
Brain fog, broken sleep and 3pm exhaustion aren't vanity problems. They cost you your sharpest hours. That is a legitimate reason to look properly.
What is functional nutrition?
Functional nutrition asks why your body is doing what it's doing, then uses food and lifestyle to support what it actually needs. Conventional advice starts from population averages. By your 40s you are not an average: your genetics, gut bacteria, stress load, hormones and decades of habits are specific to you.
In practice that means three things:
a long, structured intake
testing only when the result would change my advice;
and a plan built from what we find, then adjusted as you change.
How a consult works
What happens in a GOOD nutrition consult?
Four steps, in this order. Testing is the only one you might skip, and most clients do.
-
Intake
Your history, symptoms, sleep, stress, cycle, digestion, medication and what you've already tried. You complete a detailed questionnaire and a 3-day food log beforehand, so the session is spent on analysis, not admin.
-
Testing
If a test would change the plan, I tell you which one, why, what it costs, and that you pay the lab directly. If it wouldn't, I say so.
-
Your written plan
Specific food priorities, a realistic weekly structure, shopping guidance for Mainz and the region, and what to stop spending money on.
-
Follow-up
We look at what changed, what didn't, and adjust. Bodies in perimenopause don't sit still, so neither does the plan.

Why testing and what you pay for it?
Because guessing is expensive.
Trying six “healthy” diets, three supplement stacks and a cleanse costs more than one well-chosen test. A result tells us which direction to go first, and gives us a baseline to measure change against.
Is lab testing included in the price?
No, and that is deliberate.
You order any test directly from the laboratory and pay the lab's own price.
My fee covers my time: the intake, interpreting your results and building your plan. You always see two separate bills, so you know exactly what you're paying for and to whom.

The tests I use
I recommend testing only where the result would actually change what I advise. These tests are information tools not diagnostic tests, and not replacements for anything your doctor would order.
Gut microbiome analysis
myBioma
What it is
A home stool test that sequences the bacteria living in your gut and reports what's there, in what proportion, and how diverse the whole population is.
Why I use it
myBioma is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016, giving me a checkable quality standard to point to rather than simply taking a laboratory's claims on trust.

What it is
A home stool test that sequences the bacteria living in your gut and reports what's there, in what proportion, and how diverse the whole population is.
It uses 16S gene sequencing and next-generation sequencing to identify over 1,400 bacterial species. Analysis takes around four to six weeks and results arrive as an app report and a PDF.
Why I chose this one
myBioma was the first microbiome analysis company in the world certified to both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 — the second being the international quality standard for medical devices, independently audited every year.
That is a checkable regulatory distinction most gut-test companies don't hold, and it's the reason I use them rather than one of the many cheaper alternatives. I'd rather send you to a lab whose standards I can point at than one I'd have to take on trust.
What it tells us
How diverse your microbiome is — species richness, evenness, overall diversity — your enterotype and what that means for how your body utilises food, and which bacterial patterns are present.
It comes with its own nutritional suggestions, and I use it as a starting point for a plan built around your intake as well as your results.
How it differs from a test your doctor would run
A conventional stool test typically examines around ten culturable species using a culture method. This sequences over 1,400.
A different tool answering a different question — not a worse version of this one, and not a replacement for it either.
What it does not do
It is not a diagnostic test. It does not detect or diagnose disease and it doesn't replace anything your doctor would order.
Charged at the lab's own price, ordered and paid directly with myBioma.

Organic Acids — Organische Säuren
A urine test measuring 22 organic acids — markers related to how your cells produce energy, plus some gut and nutrient markers.
Often the useful one when fatigue is the loudest symptom and nothing on a standard blood panel explains it.
Morning urine sample, results in 7–21 days from when the lab receives it.
The test is charged at the lab's own price. You pay ORY directly for the test; my fee is separate and covers the consultation and interpretation.
This is not a diagnostic test and it doesn't replace anything your doctor would order. I recommend it only where the result would change what I advise.

None of these tests replace your doctor, and none of them are diagnostic — they're information that helps me build a plan specific to you, instead of guessing.
How I work with your doctor, not around them
As a nutrition coach, I focus on using food to support your health and wellbeing. I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions.
I work collaboratively with your healthcare providers to complement their recommendations with nutrition and lifestyle strategies.
Think of it as building a holistic health team: your doctor focuses on diagnosis and treatment, while I support you in making sustainable dietary and lifestyle changes so you can feel your best.
Do I need to test to start?
No.
Most clients start without one. The free 20-minute call is where we decide whether a test would change anything for you. If you already have a stool, microbiome or blood test from elsewhere, bring it; it may mean you don't need to test again. I can interpret another lab's results,
but I can't vouch for how that lab produced them, and anything needing clinical interpretation goes to your doctor.
What to expect
A real intake. Before anything else, we talk properly
your history, your symptoms, your stressors, what's already been tried and didn't work. This isn't a five-minute form.
Testing where it's useful, not by default. If testing is likely to change your plan, I'll recommend it and explain exactly why. If it won't add anything useful for you, I'll say so plainly instead of upselling you.
A plan built around what we actually find. Built from your intake and, where relevant, your results
not a template with your name at the top.
Follow-up that adjusts as you change. Bodies aren't static, especially through perimenopause. We revisit and refine rather than handing you one plan and wishing you luck.
Where my work ends
I interpret and guide using functional nutrition training. I don't diagnose or treat medical conditions.
Where something falls outside my scope, I'll tell you plainly and point you to the right professional
A doctor, a specialist, whoever is actually appropriate.
Clinical hormone panels and their interpretation sit with a doctor or endocrinologist, and I'll say so when that's the right next step.
Nothing here replaces medical care, and nothing here should be started in place of seeing your GP.
Individual nutrition consultations are not offered to people living in South Africa. When I’m there, I teach Reformer classes and run workshops and talks instead.
Before you book a Test
What the test fee covers, and what it doesn't
Tests are not included in the price of a consultation.
You order the test directly from the laboratory and you pay the lab their own price
I don't mark it up, and I don't take payment for the kit.
My fee covers the consultation, the interpretation, and the plan we build from it. The two are always billed separately, so you can always see exactly what you're paying for and to whom.
You do not need a test to start. Most people shouldn't. A test is worth ordering only where the result would change what I recommend, and the free 20-minute call is where we work out whether that's true for you.
Already have results?
If you've had a stool test, a microbiome analysis or blood work done elsewhere, bring it
I'm glad to go through it with you as part of a consultation and it may well mean you don't need to test again.
One honest caveat: laboratories differ in their methods, their reference ranges and how they present results, so I can interpret what another lab has given you, but I can't vouch for how that lab produced it. Where a result needs clinical interpretation, that sits with your doctor and I'll say so.
I interpret and guide using functional nutrition training. I don't diagnose or treat medical conditions.
Where I stand on detox, parasite cleanses, and fasting
These three come up more than almost anything else, so here's my position plainly, before you book anything.
DO DETOX PROGRAMMES WORK?
Not in the way they're sold. Your liver and kidneys handle detoxification continuously, whether or not you buy a seven-day programme. If a "detox" makes you feel better, it's very likely because you cut out alcohol, sugar and ultra-processed food for a few days — a genuinely good outcome, just not evidence you flushed out toxins. I won't sell you a product on the promise that it does something your organs already do. What is worth doing is ongoing whole-food nutrition and reducing your actual load, not a short dramatic reset.
WHAT ABOUT PARASITE CLEANSES?
I won't sell a parasite cleanse to someone who hasn't tested for a parasite, and I'd encourage you to be wary of anyone who does. If you're having persistent digestive symptoms, the responsible next step is testing — not a generic herbal protocol aimed at a problem you may not have.
IS FASTING A GOOD IDEA IN PERIMENOPAUSE?
Genuinely nuanced, and I won't flatten it into a yes or no. There is credible research behind fasting-mimicking approaches. But prolonged caloric restriction can add to an already elevated cortisol load during a life stage when stress hormones are frequently working overtime. For some women fasting is a useful tool. For others, right now, it's the opposite of what their nervous system needs. That's exactly why it's a screened conversation, never a product you simply buy and start.
Symptom Checker
Does Perimenopause look the same for every woman?
No, and the biggest study shows it. The Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN) followed women through the menopause transition for over 17 years. Frequent hot flushes and night sweats lasted a median 7.4 years overall, but 10.1 years for Black women and 6.5 years for white women. Higher perceived stress was also linked to symptoms lasting longer.
SWAN recruited women in the United States. If your heritage is African, mixed, South Asian or simply not one of the groups it studied, the honest position is that the evidence on your timeline is thinner still. So if you've been told you're “too young” for this, or handed a plan built around somebody else's timeline, you weren't imagining the mismatch. I start from your history, not from a default.
Practical questions
-
Almost certainly not — functional nutrition consults and most of the lab tests here are private-pay, not covered by statutory German health insurance. I'd rather tell you that plainly upfront than have it be a surprise later.
-
That's a fair concern, and a common one. I'm not here to replace your doctor or work around them — I work alongside your medical care, and where results point to something that genuinely needs medical attention, I'll say so and point you there. Plenty of clients bring their results to their GP afterwards as a starting point for a more specific conversation, not instead of one.
-
Because most of what you've likely tried was built for an average person, not tested against your actual biology. That's the entire premise here — not another list to try blindly, but a plan built from what your body is actually showing us.
-
A written summary of your plan, plus your lab results explained in plain language where testing is involved — not just raw numbers. You keep this; it's yours.
What our busy Mums are saying.
What should I eat on a GLP-1 medication so I don't lose muscle?
The short answer: enough protein, deliberately, even when you don't feel hungry. GLP-1 medications can be genuinely effective for weight management, but appetite suppression makes it easy to under-eat protein and key nutrients, which can accelerate muscle loss rather than protect it. What happens nutritionally alongside the medication is what determines whether the results last.
This package is for anyone currently taking, or transitioning off, a GLP-1 medication who wants to protect lean muscle, ease side effects, and build habits that outlast the prescription.
This is a nutrition support package, not medical management of your medication. You should already be under a doctor's care for your GLP-1 prescription
I work alongside that care, never in place of it.
YOUR CONSULT WILL FOCUS ON:
· Protecting muscle mass and metabolic function through adequate protein intake
· Meeting protein, vitamin, mineral and fibre targets despite a suppressed appetite
· Reducing common side effects : nausea, constipation, food aversions — through food choices
· Building sustainable eating habits for whenever you come off the medication
INCLUDED: 50-minute initial consultation · interpretation of any lab tests chosen with you · 50-minute follow-up · 25-minute check-in.
€330 + test, paid directly to the lab
NOT SURE WHERE TO START?
Find the right place to begin.
If you're still not sure which consult is right for you, start with what sounds most like where you are now.
STILL UNSURE?
That's exactly what the free call is for.
You don't need to know which programme you need before we speak. Start with a short conversation and we'll work out whether testing would add anything at all.
